Bio

Andrew Finley is a versatile classical, jazz, and rock bassist from Sacramento, CA. He earned a Master of Music in Classical Double Bass Performance at Sacramento State in spring 2024, studying with the esteemed Thomas Derthick. During his time at Sac State, Andrew served as the principal bass player for the Orchestra, Opera, and Jazz Ensemble. Hailing from Sacramento, Andrew’s musical journey began at a young age, starting double bass at age 10 and bass guitar at age 13. He later earned a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from California State University, Northridge.

Andrew recently completed a guest residency at Bowling Green State University’s Praecepta, performed as a featured soloist at Sac State’s FeNAM 2025, and has played with Opera Modesto, Music in the Mountains, and Sacramento Philharmonic. He also plays bass guitar in Sacramento Preparatory Academy’s professional touring company, with recent performances of Pink Floyd and The Beatles.

Andrew is an avid fan of contemporary music for solo bass, which has influenced his own musical style and studies. He has performed works by Xavier Foley, Andrés Martín, Teppo Hauta-aho, Pēteris Vasks, Rodrigo Mata, and Nicholas Walker.

Andrew plays a 2023 Sergio Scaramelli Double Bass.
